A few years ago I tried to hire a couple of teenagers from my church to help me do some things I can’t do for myself, like washing windows, hanging curtains etc. None of them was interested even though I offered to pay. Oh, they wanted money, ut they didn’t see the need to work for it.

Frieda with the naturally curly hair made far fewer appearances than Violet and Patty after she ceased to be a major character. This is one of her extremely few post-1969 appearances (she last appeared in 1985).

Alas, seeing some young person coming to the front door to ask for work around the house is a rarity. When I was younger and quite spry and could do most anything, I had young people wanting to do work for a good price. But, now that I’m older, have bad knees, and far less energy, there are none of those kids coming by for work. I guess with the job market such as it is, I can’t offer the kind of work, pay and benefits that they can get from the public sector.

Good work ethics Charlie Brown, I admire that in a person. From the time i was eight, I was making potholders to sell for a Quarter, mowing neighbors lawns and washing windows for money for pop and candy and models etc. etc. That was back in the 60’s, yes, I’m old, born 1954

For a while two youngsters about 10 years old came through the neighborhood with a hand-drawn cart. They offered to take all the empty bottles and take them to a collection point. They made it clear that they would happily take money for the service. I admired their entrepreneurial spirit and paid them generously. Unfortunately, they stopped the service, so I have to take the glass bottles to the collection myself again…

To someone who knows the strip better than me. Is he Charlie Brown? Who is the girl? At first I thought she was Sally so that can’t be Charlie Brown, but her hair color obviously says not.

Adults in this world being as they are, I think you’d have to work very hard not to garble their messages.

Last year the two kids across the street started up a “neighbour to neighbour” snow clearing business. Pay them to do your drive and walk and they would do your place plus one of the elderly homeowners on the street too. Drives got cleared, the kids made some good money* and everyone felt good about helping out.

*No goofing around with these two, the cost of your snow removal was based on how many cars you could park in your drive.

I’ve lived at this address for 16 years. This summer was the first time anyone has asked if I want my grass cut. Unfortunately, it was a young (9? 10?) kid who used my mower, did a poor job, plus he wanted to use my mower to mow other people’s grass, I think because my mower is electric, and he thought it would be cheaper for him to use (wouldn’t have to buy gas).
