When social discourse got too political a few years back, the TVs in the Mayo Clinic waiting rooms all switched to HGTV. Too many patient arguments if the political “news” shows were on.
I don’t recollect my wife or I ever changing the channel on the other one. The TV belonged to whoever was watching it first. We might suggest watching a different show, but it has always been up to the one who was watching first.
