Back then was the age of penny candy, nickle candy bars, dime cup of coffee, and fifteen cent hamburgers as I remember the early 60’s in the store my parents ran.
In the 50s when I grew up you could get lots of penny candy, candy bars were a nickel, one bar was 3 cents, pies were 12 cents, a soda bottle was 5 cents, but I usually had only a dime or so to spend!
I remember this! You had to show the person at the candy counter how many pennies you had first (whatever Dad had in his pocket, which often included a nickel or dime) and then I could pick out all sorts of heavenly treats! That is, until I got the dreaded warning that I only had one penny’s worth more to choose.
I still pick up pennies I see on the ground and any other coins. They fill my piggy bank which now weighs about 10#s of coins. Time to go convert them to cash.

That’s penny candy for you, not worth the price if there’s a comic book available.

back in the day a comic book still cost peanuts compared to today

Good idea. The candy would be gone in minutes but the comic book may still be around 50 years later and you can sell it on Ebay for lots of money.

Now, a dime will get about a single piece of Life Savers.

Bruh, you could have just got all of those items for a penny. Normally in the real world things won’t be that cheap.
