I actually have a wooden nickel. I was working at TG&Y in the early 70s and an older gentleman offered me a wooden nickel. I said, âIâve always heard of wooden nickels, but Iâve never seen one. Thank you!â He was sure surprised that expressed delight at receiving one and being so happy about it. I think I spoiled his fun. He wanted me to be embarrassed about âtaking a wooden nickel.â He didnât know me at all. :D I was tickled pink to have it because it was a novelty item. His wife didnât let him pout about my gleeful reaction for long, and thanked me for taking it so heâd quit trying to embarrass people. Itâs in my jewelry box to this day. A moment of delight in wood.

Thatâs better than a latter day exchange of âWhazzzuuuppp?!?â repeated a few times.
