TV shows in Iceland are never interrupted with commercials. They’re all shown between programs. I remember back in the 70s, that commercials were the best thing on TV, and whenever they came on, someone would call “Hey! Everybody come and see. Commercials are on!”
Kind of a reminder that, when the strip started, TV was not the all powerful medium that it became. People still listened to radio shows as much if not more. I Love Lucy wouldn’t debut until the end of this year in the strip, 1951.

The radio is likely an AA5 – All-American 5 tube. Millions were made by a dozen manufacturers.

Some commercials end up more exciting, and memorable, than the shows.

I liked commercials, because I could get things done during them.

Some people like to claim the world was so much better decades ago. Here’s proof that things have changed less than you might think.
