I didn’t really internalise the fact that there’s a clock/timer on my phone until about 4 years ago. I looked at the clock and heard myself say, “Twenty minutes…that means lunch will be ready at a quarter past one.”

I’ve been reading Peanuts from the beginning and I love how sassy Charlie Brown was in these early strips! Idky Schulz decided to make him into such a sad sack

The funniest part of this strip is Charlie Brown’s honesty. Remember the scene in “Crocodile Dundee”, where Paul Hogan’s character surreptitiously checked the time on a companion’s watch, then made a show of announcing the time as if he’d read the sun’s position? Charlie Brown could have done something like that to impress Violet — instead, he told the simple, unvarnished truth. And was funny.

This is the beauty of “Peanuts” over its long run.

Like reading, I don’t remember when I learned to tell time. I knew it before I went to first grade (and skipped kindergarten). My parents bought me a book around the time I was five, so I remember that.

I’ll bet there are a lot of kids today who can’t decipher an analog clock nor read Roman numerals.

This strip is genius even in its infancy.

Now, that’s just cheating!

At least he wasn’t trying to show off.

In this digital world, I still sometimes say “20 to…” or “quarter past…”. It can mess up people not used to analog clocks.
