I’ve been yoyo dieting since I was 8 yrs old and my mother sent me to weight watchers. Turned out I had a severe issue inside and after surgery my stomach was never the same. I’ve dropped over 100 lbs 4 times. Now it all just refuses to leave even after bypass. So I am trying to learn to accept myself for the first time in 56 yrs. It’s a struggle.
I too did the rapid weight loss just over 10 years ago. Lost 5 lbs every 24 hours for 4 days. As to having a doctor take care of me that was no problem – I was in the ICU annex at the time with 3 doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. An internal medicine specialist finally tracked down the cause – a rare immune disorder. From onset to remission I lost 38 lbs. I definitely do not recommend this way of losing weight. As a result of all that fun my kidneys operate at about 40% now. Fortunately I can live with that.
I think the reason we don’t hear much of the eat less, exercise more plan for losing weight is that all those companies that make a lot of money selling all those other diet plans. Yup, it all comes down to profit.
If the advice was good, there would be less overweight people, not more. Now they’re saying artificial sweeteners are bad as they set up the digestion to expect sugar, and when none arrives the brain says “keep eating until the sugar arrives”.

If you’ve lost nine pounds in 72 hours, go see a doctor. Something is seriously wrong (unless you’ve just had a baby).

Slapping a new name on something that’s long been proven to be detrimental and ineffective is just putting lipstick on a pig.

It is strange how the eat-less exercise-more approach gets consistently lost in the popular media.

The cabbage veggie soup from Weight Watchers is actually quite good…and very healthy.

Cabbage soup in panel 1, huh? Um—thanks, but I think I’ll try other dieting methods … ha.
