My favorite memory of my thin sister: “Doesn’t your walking twenty minutes a day work off that cheeseburger, fries & mocha?” Oh, my darling, if ONLY!

It only matches the amount of food we eat. Replace a couple of snack times with some exercise, and that will help. But healthy bodies are made in the kitchen, not in the gym (although exercise is essential to health).

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Monday! Have a great day, all!

I have come to believe that it’s a matter of motivation when it comes to activity or lack thereof. I am trying to get back in the habit of going to the gym at least three days a week and taking walks to and around Lincoln Park (which is on E. Capitol St.) when the weather is nice. And I try to eat healthy most of the time. As someone getting older (aren’t we all?), I want to keep healthy and keep my mind sharp for as long as I can. That’s about all we can do.

Exercise does not have to take a lot of time. Walking, even to a bakery, is still exercise. Try walking a little faster, that gets your heart rate up. Do not walk with a phone in your hand. It unbalances your posture. “Exercising” while talking on the phone means you are not listening to your body. It’s your body. Make smart choices or find yourself living inside a huge, old shell of a body.

Back in 1982 the average person was not as heavy so only required the 20 minutes 3 times per week. Now I think we need 120 minutes per day 14 days per week. Or maybe cut down on those supersized meals. Looks like I have to eat a lot less and move around more for the next two weeks. I have to lose the 3 lbs that I gained in the last two weeks before we hit Walt Disney World (hopefully without hurricanes).

Maybe I had better go for a walk now – at least down to the lake to check on the new sod we had laid last week. Yesterday it was mostly under water as the high winds from the south drove the waves hard against the wall causing the water to splash over the wall. At least we don’t have to worry if the sod is getting enough water.

    Have a fantastic Monday.
