Why bother to lead by example? The offending rightwingnut “Justices” — now there’s an oxymoron — their appointing patron, and his party haven’t bothered in many, many decades.
Hypocrisy is soooo much easier and much more profitable.

Clarence will be a Supreme until there is a GOP president to replace him or he dies. Trying to minimize the appearance of wrong doing is a very good plan. I seriously doubt anyones vote has been bought but the liberal justices vote as a block a lot more than the conservative ones do and Roberts goes out of his way to not overrule Congress.
We live in an oligarchy. We veered toward democracy a few times- but the oligarchs always are lurking. Three GOP billionaires are presently betting millions on Nikki Haley !
Ok Senate…work up a perfect code of conduct that NO ONE could complain about. And then when the Rs refuse it, keep it in a safe, for that day when there is a majority of progressive judges and they all of a sudden want a “Code Of Conduct” because these judges are taking bribes!!!!
About this code of ethics: what’s the mechanism of enforcement? I mean, who judges the Supreme Court? There has always been the possibility of impeachment by the House of Representatives (to be judged by the Senate), but does that cover ethical failures?

Sonia Sotomayor doesn’t look happy with Uncle Thomas. Where’s Scalito?

Sotomayor – “Hey, that gives me an idea for a new book”.
Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor’s staff prodded colleges and libraries to buy her books.

It’s not a code of ethics. It’s a vague suggestion of “wouldn’t it be nice if we had some” ethics.

Useless code without an enforcement apparatus. No surprise.
