we have a small colony of feral cats in the back yard i feed. my daughter brought over an old dog house and 2 bags of cut straw so we could make 2 winter shelters. she gave a home to 3 litter mate kittens we caught in late spring. doing what we can
Our last “Late” dog, a Corgi-mix, didn’t like fires. She was a rescue so, we have no idea of her history. Anyway, if we decided to have a fire on a cold evening, she would excuse herself and go up to bed. Normally, she followed us around everywhere and insisted we all be in the same room.
This is a touching companion to the really special storyline that’s been going on in the “Mutts” comic strip for the past several weeks. Truly a masterpiece. Google “Mutts breaking the chain” for an overview article published by the AP.
What did dogs do before humans? There were winters back then. There were extreme heats. What about the “homeless” deer? What about the “homeless” foxes? Animals are hardier and more resilient than we give them credit for. Just because dogs are our companions doesn’t mean that they need us that much. If we died off, they’d find a way to take care of themselves.

Many homeless dogs live with homeless people. Cold winter nights are very hard for homeless dogs and homeless people.

Poor homeless pups! It saddens me! But I haven’t seen any homeless dogs in my area, which might mean the humans here are good, compassionate people!

I wish every homeless person and animal can find a home for Christmas.

It’s likely that Rover speaks from experience. He seemed to have no owner when Red met him.
