I agree that the belief in Santa Claus or the possibility of a negotiated settlement is extremely far from what I think is probable.

Given Hamas’ track record when it comes to ceasefires, one should be offered to the Palestinians immediately upon the death of the last Hamas member.

    Not one second sooner.

The extremists, Lukid, Otzma Yehudit, Religious Zionist Party, Hamas, et al seem unable [ has it been so long, they’ve forgotten how? ] to trust anyone, or be trusted. Without trust there can be no peace. The extremists, all around the world, seem quite good — using suspicions, innuendo, conspiracy theories, and lies — in destroying trust and dividing people against each other.

People with those signs and not chanting anything aren’t being called extremists (though the difference between a ceasefire and pause is often lost). When those people join with people who chant “intifada” and such, they are.

We have so many extremists calling other people “extreme.” Curious times we live in.

As long as both Jews or Palestinians want a Jewish or Palestinian River to the Sea state there will never be peace; this was understood by many in 1948 (including US Secretary of State Marshall) who opposed recognizing Israel as a separate state. Two million Palestinians living in the ruble of their bombed homes will lead to only more attacks on Israel. Israel will never give up enough land to make a two state solution possible.

I guess Ted thinks the Ukrainians should lay down their arms and let Putin have half their country so that in 5 years he can take the other half.

Then only negotiation to a cease-fire is all the hostages returned at once

Question? How does one identify a Hamas person? Hitler evidently had it easy by checking genitalia. Do Hamas have distinguishing features?

So Netanyahu has vowed to exterminate all Hamas, hard (impossible) to distinguish between Hamas and a Palestinian.. so all must be exterminated.. sounds everybit like the genocide Hitler proposed.

And on a related note, are they taking Hamas prisoners or just doing the extermination locally?

These people only call for a ceasefire after they attack. Hamas only wanted a ceasefire after their genocide.

Given that both Netanyahu and Haniyeh benefit from a major distraction from their poor performance, and neither seem to be much moved by Israeli and Palestinian misery and death, it is not clear what negotiations between the two would lead to.
