If we encounter intelligent beings from outer space (or even if someone pulls off a convincing hoax) there will be a lot of people willing to accept whatever they say.

The good news is that we’re heading towards that WW3 that Star Trek predicted (just a lot earlier) that led us to develop warp drive and meet all the other Federation of Planets members. The bad news is that it looks like the Fascists are going to be the ones to win WW3, and big tech is going to own any warp drive while blocking the development of a replicator to protect vulture capitalism as it kills all of us.
