Life Pro Tip. People on the West Coast of the US can watch the Time Square ball drop at 9 pm local time. Or, if you’re on the East Coast, watch the celebrations in Rome, London, or Paris.

My last real New Year’s Party that tied one on went from 8 PM till 8"30 AM. And, boy, did I feel bad. I’ll never do that again. I believe that was 1971, I think.

A friend who lives in Germany taught me something new about New Year’s Eve. She asked me if my wife and I had any plans to celebrate Sylvester. I had never heard of Sylvester, I did a bit of research. From what I learned Saint Sylvester who lived in the 300’s was a pope elevated to sainthood. His feast day is December 31st and part of the feast activities are parties and fireworks.

There’s a local microbrewery here outside of Philly. They have a ‘German New Year’s Eve ‘party that starts at 4pm, or 10pm German time. At 6pm a keg of beer is dropped from a forklift celebrating the New Year in Germany. It’s an all you can eat buffet and it’s fun. Back home by 9.

That’s perfect if you live in Alaska watching people on the East coast Ring in the new year. It’s even earlier if your in Hawaii and can ring in the new year at 7pm

Back when I could run a few miles without labored breathing, the town I lived in celebrated New Years Day with a “Penguin Plod”, running or walking a 3 mile course. Since this was in Montana, temperatures were frequently below freezing. Managed to limit my celebrations on New Year’s eve.

Yep. That sounds about right. The only way I’ll be awake at midnight is if the fireworks are too loud for me to sleep.
