Well yes, in a way. You do swipe up and right on it.

Bad choice of words, Kate. A young friend saw a late 30s or 40s phone that came with the house and wanted to know what it was and how to use it. He couldn’t understand that you put a finger in a hole to dial.

I saw a video awhile back where a grandma had a phone like that and asked her grandson if he knew how it worked. He couldn’t figure it out. I was laughing so hard at how he didn’t know which end to speak into and which to hear out of, not to mention how to dial it. So funny!

There are some fine videos available, from about a hundred years ago, that carefully and slowly demonstrate how to use the ‘new’ dial Candle Stick phones.

Now, making long distance calls might constitute a multi part explanation that changes ‘for our convenience’.

why do so many people take selfies with the camera up in the air, instead of out in front , level with them ?

That’s all I want, a rotary phone. My grandparents have one and I even used it a few times before they disconnected it.

But of course! I really don’t know how you use a candlestick phone. Floof, now, she knows what to swipe!

I can remember, from my ancient youth, that our phone had a party line. There were three other phones on the same line. Sometimes, I would pick up the phone just to listen in to other people’s phone calls. Not nice, but I was only 4, 5 years old, and didn’t really understand what they were talking about.

Ah, the good old days when you could actually talk to people on the phone, without shouting.

I have a blue one, just like it, with the dial. It’s sitting right here on the piano.

    Those cords drove me mad.

So happy now having cordless everything…except for my new mouse, which has a cord, as it drops down frequently, and I can simply reel it in.

This morning to celebrate my birthday I had pancakes and my kitten managed to get her extra long tail in the syrup. She hadn’t even noticed I had to catch her to clean it off and she still didn’t bother licking it herself :]

I still remember when phones were used to speak to somebody who wasn’t in the immediate vicinity who also had a phone and happened to be in the room are close to the room at house the phone at that precise moment that you called them. Wild times.

I once went riding and saw two young people sitting on a park bench with their backs to a magnificent sunset, texting (hopefully not to each other). I actually stopped my bicycle and pointed out the magnificent sunset. They gave me two glazed expressions and went on texting.
