Does the style of wrapping (not just the tape work) suggest a likely giver? Eg paper design, decoration choice, way the corners are folded? I’m with Katie here, you can deduce quite a lot by careful inspection.
I like to disguise the presents I give. Like the time I gave my wife a new set of measuring cups and spoons. I wrapped them in a Victoria’s Secrets box.
Run it through the metal detector at your school entrance. Run it past the sniffer dogs at the airport. Examine it with a thermal vision app on your phone.
I was quite content to await Christmas Day to open my presents. My younger brother would mess with the packages until oops, the paper tore or a piece of tape mysteriously came off. At that point he thought the gift was fair game, it didn’t matter that the presents were my parent’s bedroom closet. After one such incident, my they started keeping the presents in the trunk of the car.
Back in the day when I was young, I was an expert at peeling the tape and pulling the box out of the giftwrap, opening the box, seeing what was inside and then returning the gift back to it’s pristine giftwrapped look. Never once got caught. I had little patience as a youth.

i guess it’s clear it’s Mom’s. Dad would never do this task without an emergency call.
