Of course they did away with compulsories back in the 90s. Brian Orser lost to Scott Hamilton in the ‘84 Olympics because of his poor scores in the compulsories. One of his last programs was him doing those in the middle of his free skate. Ice Dance was the last discipline to still have them and I believe it was 2000 when they stopped them. It was boring to watch most times, but it was the only time the skaters all used the exact same pattern. Dance now has a required portion in the Rhythm Dance where they are supposed to be doing the same patterns, but usually it is blended in so seamlessly that unless the commentators mention it I usually don’t notice.
I saw what was basically an Original Peoples stick figure painting with humans, bison and elk go for $55K at auction. Four-year-old Harvey has a future.
