An important point that Rover has spotted. Sleeping dogs don’t mind being woken for food. The saying should be, “Let sleeping dogs lie – unless you feed them.”.
I never have to wake Newton up for food—he can be sound asleep but somehow will hear (?) me opening a cabinet door in the kitchen and he’s suddenly there.
There was a strip several years ago with Rover sleeping soundly . . . suddenly one eye opens and he gets up and stands expectantly in front of Red, who says, “No I haven’t been eating anything while you’ve been napping in the other room.”

Don’t let your dog lie when it’s awake.
It should always tell the truth (when it’s conscious).
