You can rely on birds for weather reports. Every time I looked out of the window and saw that the pidgeons on the roof opposite our house were wet, I knew it was raining. Depending on which side of the roof they were sitting I knew the direction of the wind…
When I was a skinny 6yo, one day I was walking to school & had just gotten to the corner & was getting ready to cross the street when a big gust of wind picked me up & blew me right across the street! Luckily it blew me right into a signpost, & I grabbed hold & hung on tight until my mom, who’d been watching from the front porch, came to my rescue & walked me the rest of the way. Good times…
My dad once found a dead bird that had gone through the storm door, the window in the wooden door, and landed dead with a broken neck over 12 ft into the basement. That bird had been supersonic. Dad figured it must been chased by a hawk.
