“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. … They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
DJT, adjudicated criminal and rapist, with 91 pending felony indictments
Anyone seriously wondering why any Latinos would support Trump should remember that there are a whole lot of former Batistas and their descendants who live in Florida. Fulgencio Batista was the dictator of Cuba (or Cuber, as JFK called it) before Castro came along and displaced him, replacing a right-wing dictatorship with a left-wing one (sort of like the Russian Revolution in miniature). Under Batista, Cuba was a haven for the American criminal class, which spent lavishly, something encouraged by the corrupt government while the common people suffered. When Castro took over, most of the former elite and their families fled to Florida, where they became dedicated anti-Communists and pro-capitalists. They supported the Republican Party then and have been doing so ever since. And they are, beyond dispute, still Latinos.
