Wait a minute! How’d those little critters get the lid off of a metal trash can. Maybe a raccoon could’ve done it, definitely a bear, but not a squirrel and cat. Back when I had a horse, I kept his oats in a plastic barrel, and a squirrel was able to get in by gnawing a hole in the lid … and then couldn’t get out because there was only a couple inches left in the bottom of a 30 gal. barrel. I tipped him, and the remaining contaminated oats out (he’d peed on them in his panic) and replace the barrel with a metal one. Never had a problem after that.
Some years ago it hit me – if I put the bag out the night before without a can – I don’t have to take a can back to the house. In most weeks we put out one 13 gallon bag for the household for the entire week. (Either we are hoarders or we do well at not making a lot of garbage.) Husband put out earlier tonight for tomorrow am pickup. Hopefully the weather will stay dry tomorrow and Tuesday and I will be able to put out 3 weeks of recycling – one legal holiday/one snowstorm has prevented us the past two weeks from putting out recycling as no pickup.

I feel for him having to lug the trash up the hill in snow, sleet, rain or blistering heat.

Ah…the old trash can…reminding me of the times before the trash and recycle bins…

But with one a carnivore and one an herbivore, there is little competition.

That trashcan doesn’t look like it’s remotely anywhere near a road for the trash collecting trucks to drive by and empty it!

One might expect a road somewhere near this garbage moment.

All is made of the common elements of the universe, just arranged differently.

The slightly lighter than night, cloudy sky instead of stars Garbage Moment is something that I also have experienced and enjoyed.
