Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see anything mean-spirited in today’s strip. I too had an aunt and uncle like these two, what they had worked for them, and even at a young age I could tell they had a deep affection for one another.
In my experience, most men will just leave the TV on and blaring while they fall asleep. I remember going downstairs at 2a to turn off the TV my ex had left on while he was crashed on the sofa, and as soon as I turned it off, he would say he was watching that. I had to get up at 6a, and I couldn’t ever sleep when the TV was on. He was not watching anything after about 11p, but he did think he was. He was never able to tell me what he had actually been watching. If he had, I would have just asked him to reduce the volume.
