There is a Biosphere in Arizona; it’s the second one here. The attempts to build a “small” sustainable closed system failed. Scientists learned much, were never able to stabilize the environment. I heard one thing they learned is trees do not grow tall strong structures without wind.
So here is my question; is the Earth possibly the smallest sustainable biosphere? People talk about terraforming Mars, so Earth might not be the smallest possible. I love Neil deGrasse Tyson’s observation that if we can terraform Mars we can terraform Earth back to being inhabitable more easily and cheaply.
Indeed! There is a very narrowband of livable year-round friendly climate on our own planet that is not without its own inherent risks. Everywhere else you are, you will likely die without clothing and shelter.

From what I understand terraforming Mars is a futile endeavor. Without a magnetic field, any atmosphere created will just float away.

It seems this is the most lucid thought this particular friend of Toby has ever had.

There’s little doubt that there are other planets out there that will sustain our lifeforms, the problem right now is getting there.
