Sadly, whenever I’ve gone to famous beautiful scenic places, the view has never been as good as a TV nature show about it. In person it’s always crowded with obnoxious tourists like me.
One of the super submersibles was about three miles down and everyone was huddled around the monitor.
“Hey, the viewport is over here.”
“Yeah, but the actual view is better over here.”
Light going through a foot or two of even the best glass couldn’t match what the cameras could pick up. Much cheaper and better next time to send one down with no people, armored glass, or low pressure quarters, just high quality cameras.
That reminds me of a story where years ago people were watching from the distance a volcano eruption. Some nerd was instead watching the eruption on their phone instead
For a lot of places, I have to settle for a picture. But Cliff is no worse than current tourists who see their whole vacation through their phone camera.

In the mid90’s, I took a KonTiki tour of Europe. Times are i wished I spent more time in the moment instead of trying to document it on my camcorder.

I remember not having to drive too far out to see the Milky Way. Now I have to go at least 75 miles to get away from the light pollution.

“Here, Cliff, let me see that VR device…I’ll just remove it, myself…by getting a hold of your neck…!”
