This. . . . will not end well!

This is obviously set before the famous strip that I recalled yesterday. The one which ended with Rover answering Red’s question, “What do you like least about being a dog?” by replying “Having to wait for years in Heaven before you join me there.”

Boy I miss my Rugby

Too young and alive to be contemplating such… but there it is…

Rover’s right…the loneliness is killer. Poor kids.

Everyone who is, or has been, owned by dogs knows how lonely life is without them. And dogs who lose the people they own are lonely without them, too—look at the dogs who keep looking for their person after they die. I once witnessed a dog visiting his person’s grave and lying down on it, not wanting to leave. The person’s son said the dog just couldn’t seem get over the loss.

Red, please don’t send Rover into an existential crisis

I think that’s enough talking about death and the afterlife. Let’s live for today!

I miss all my fur babies. Usually had 2-4 so nobody was left alone. We all mourned together. I actally feel the absence of them way more than the absence of any real people. I’ve learned what love really is—unconditional and continual.

Animals have no concept of death… Knowing their own mortality is the Doom of Man.

You got some ‘splainin’to do,red‼️

I miss Dolly, Sally, Treacle, Barney and Zebedee. Glad I still have my Daisy Dumpling

So many loving people in this string of comments! It warms my heart. Your little fur babies are SO lucky to have you.

And my Maggie and Kiya. I love Red and Rover, but this one made me tear up.

I have photo and my artwork to remember all my wonderful cats. I have been a very lucky cat-whisperer. One of them, Vivekat, lived to be 17.

Please do not use this as an invitation for an “oldest cat” contest.

This story thread is making me sad.

Red and Rover ……. enjoy the time you have together ………. and ……. make the best of it …… ;)

As quickly as these 2 age in this strip, they’ll never have to worry about one losing the other.

Humans are not the only ones who recognize death. But are the only ones who are aware it’s coming.
