I saw where some person took their son to a veterinarian, because he identified as a cat – and they thought it was discrimination because the veterinarian wouldn’t treat him. Saddest part – I couldn’t tell if it was real, or a parody.
I hate to burst your bubble Mike, but many pipes have BOTH male and female parts. Some have exotic drains on them and some have spigots. There is a whole LBGTQ… of “mating appendages” on pipes.

But what happens if the pipes don’t identify as male or female? Or if they are non-gender specific? Or if they are bi-gender?

In electronics, we had “plugs” and “sockets”, but also referred to them as male and female ends. So what’s the big deal?

Yes, but occasionally male and female threads are reverse-threaded to prevent mixups. Make of that what you will.

The male/female terms have also been used to describe computer cable connections in the IT industry (though less common now than in the past).
