I saw where some person took their son to a veterinarian, because he identified as a cat ā€“ and they thought it was discrimination because the veterinarian wouldnā€™t treat him. Saddest part ā€“ I couldnā€™t tell if it was real, or a parody.

But what happens if the pipes donā€™t identify as male or female? Or if they are non-gender specific? Or if they are bi-gender?

I hate to burst your bubble Mike, but many pipes have BOTH male and female parts. Some have exotic drains on them and some have spigots. There is a whole LBGTQā€¦ of ā€œmating appendagesā€ on pipes.

In electronics, we had ā€œplugsā€ and ā€œsocketsā€, but also referred to them as male and female ends. So whatā€™s the big deal?

Yes, but occasionally male and female threads are reverse-threaded to prevent mixups. Make of that what you will.

The male/female terms have also been used to describe computer cable connections in the IT industry (though less common now than in the past).
