Fred, you have to understand that in addition to being awkward, your rear end is very heavy so he’s battling to keep your rear from falling plus keeping your back from being hurt. Cut poor Dear some slack.

They don’t have any children so…..

I carried my dog on an escalator just the once. Never again, from now on it’s the stairs or a lift.

I have to agree with Fred. I don’t think the man lifts weights or anything.

Fred, you gave Mr. Dear a work out today.

Well, that would seem to be the wrong way to carry a large-ish dog.

Like carrying a huge wiggly sausage.

Glad the store didn’t have a power failure, they could have been trapped! :D

About how much does a Basset weigh? I haven’t known all that many of them but I know they are significantly larger than my 40 pound Welsh Corgi and 45 pound Bull Terrier were, let alone my 25 pound Dachshund. We have a 70 pound Greyhound now, but because of radically different designs, I think it would be very difficult to compare them.
