MAGAts have NO understanding of market concentration, don’t believe it even exists, and are certain it has NO effect on inflation whatsoever.

    .

It is so much easier on their analysis skills to just blame Biden and ‘his policies’. They don’t have any idea of what policies those are, but they “know” they’re bad and entirely responsible for all inflation.

    .

    Case in point, first comment.

Shrinkflation is real, as is greedflation.

As for shrinkflation that’s been going on for a long time. What is considered an extra large candy bar, was the regular size when I was a kid. Good thing we were really, really active as kids back then.

But ask the corporations how their profits are growing? Those rising prices on shrinking products are making some corporate fat cats very very rich.

Coffee production is decreasing due to climate change. Of course, I don’t know what that has to do with certain so called coffee shops who hardly serve anything close to coffee. But milk is getting expensive too, so that must be it.

Coffee used to come in a 1-lb can; then 14-oz can. Now? 12-oz bag. Next: 8-ball ziplock in an alley.

Inflation. I recently gave my daughter in law one of my extra, older electric coffee grinders, this one is orange in color and made in West Germany. Turns out they’re selling for over $150 on eBay. If I were a colder person I’d ask for it back. LOL

i remember a Mad Magazine article from the late 60’s or early 70’s about the shrinking candy bar, they were putting a sleeve in the candy bar so you couldn’t tell how big it actually was the final version had a huge bar … like 3’ by 4’ and only a tiny little bar inside.

we aren’t to far from that now.

Their other trick is to express a product’s weight in fractions, hoping we won’t notice when it decreases from 9.72 oz. to 9.23 oz. for example.

In Cayucos, a coastal tourist town, I was charged over three dollars for a cup of decaffeinated coffee with my meal, in a Mexican restaurant, no less. It was not espresso with fancy mixes and toppings – just coffee. Fortunately, I know a place in Morro Bay where I can get an espresso for less than that.

My second wife had reared four children before I met her. She said she saved a fortune over the years with one simple rule: everyone only ordered tap water with the meal. They could drink coffee and soda at reasonable prices at home.

It has 4 scoops of coffee steamed into a tiny cup. They can’t get anybody to clean cups and that is now their big expense.
