Neither party wanted the Government to go into a shutdown when we are months away from an election where all seats in the House and one third of the Senate (33 seats) are up for reelection. That did not stop Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) putting up a motion to vacate Gary Johnson (R-LA) from the Speaker’s chair. I feel that the GOP would rather not go through the hassle of voting multiple times to pick a new Speaker with the elections months away. Hopefully, in January 2025, we will vote in Speaker Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) as the first African American Speaker as the Democrats win back the House.
