Many power outages last two seconds. This happens when a squirrel or some other creature short circuits the line. The power company detects the short and then turns off the power to allow the now crispy critter to fall free. It repeats the cycle three times before shutting down “permanently.”
This is why the lights often flicker before an outage.
The problem is that two seconds is long enough to reboot a lot of electrical equipment. This is why my computers and main TVs are on UPS. They keep going. If the power doesn’t come back on in about 5 minutes then I shut them all down. I now have a number of phone chargers that still work.
I have a “super” UPS that is dedicated to my modem and router. It’s good for about 10 hours.
there was actually a story in our local news just a couple days ago about some crows building a nest in the wrong place, starting an electrical fire, and knocking out power to 130,000 homes in the area… ☺

In the west they had to separate the power lines double the distance of other places: Eagles and condors wingspan made them vulnerable.
