Please be aware that the rated maximum safe speed for non-specialty passenger car tires is 80 mph. People who exceed that speed in a passenger car are just asking for the tire tread to separate from the belting. If you did not pay specifically for “specialty” high-speed tires, I strongly suggest that you presume that the maximum safe speed is 80 mph.
Tires designed specifically for racing and for emergency vehicles have higher speed ratings. Normally those speed ratings appear on the sidewalls of the tires. Please, people, don’t exceed the ratings.
This is why, when someone steals a car and tries to outrun the police, they generally blow a tire and wind up in an accident.

The bias ply tires are used for 86 proof and the steel belted radials yield the 101 proof.

There used to be huge piles of tires in junkyards. Once in a while they caught fire and created clouds of smoke. Seems they all disappeared ..
Do you remember the Firestone steel-belted radial 500 tire? Lots of accidents and fatalities when the tires came apart.

There used to be a whiskey that was nicknamed “Old Overshoes”. I can certainly imagine one called “Glen Goodyear”!
