I can bore people with recollections of a wonderful neighborhood bakery from my childhood in St Louis and that’s almost 7 decades ago. They made the most wonderful deep butter cake.
I was upset to find out this month that a bakery in the town to the north of us closed – no more chocolate rum balls (unless I visit the German bakery in Indianapolis). :(
Plus Thursday we found out our favorite winery with its award-winning strawberry wine had closed December 31. :(
Wait…you “Made Some” and didn’t save any for Dan to taste? Well..I guess if you deemed them “not bad” you wouldn’t want to serve them to your husband to get HIS opinion as long they weren’t perfect…carry on.
OMG, I thought my family was the only one who ever heard of those!!!! My mom used to make them. She hasn’t made them in years, though. I actually like them! Hers don’t have a lot of cabbage so you don’t taste it much. That’s what I love about them.

Looked up bierocks, a bread roll with a meat or vegetable filling baked in. Darn it, now you’ve gone and made me hungry.

Let us know how they turned out Manders, unless you’re not happy with the results.
