Those canoes will only be used to recharge laptops and iPhones.

At the boarding school where I work in Beijing, the dorm teachers turn off the electricity to the rooms at 10:30 p.m. every school night and turn it back on at 6:00 a.m. the next morning. All that means is the students spend a lot of their parents’ money on portable power banks (or “power babies” as they’re called by the Chinese).

Today he’d be mentioning the camp’s wifi (wifi was in its infancy when this strip first ran on June 5, 2001).

So the canoes won’t be used for canoodling?!

Go to camp? We had a grassy field. Some nice guy left the field to the city.

Make sure Alex wears a life jacket.

It’s gotten a little better, but unfortunately there still aren’t a lot of places that will support a girl geek and her interests.

When you as a parent can’t not aren’t controlling what your children are seeing or using….then you have an issue(s). I’m old school.

Camp Crystal Lake? Better to sleep with flashlight and claw hammer, to be safe.

No geek would be happy with the kind of bandwidth you get in a canoe. :)

I was able to broaden my outlook, over the years, from geeky honor student to professional athlete, dancer, playwright … oh, and software developer. :)
