I had a border collie. He’d never been trained as a sheep dog, but he used to herd us together. When we went out walking, if we got a few yards apart he’d run between us trying to get us together.
À propos sheep: last night I had to close the window to find some sleep. The neighbor’s sheep were pretty loud! They belched a lot, sneezed and shakeded their heads making loud, flapping sounds with their ears. Very cute but too loud to sleep with :-D
It is always interesting to watch the new to the dog park herding breeds. They start out trying to herd all the humans into one area. When that fails they try to do so with the dogs. They get very frustrated then give up.
I have a Sheltie that is training for her first herding trial in the Fall. When she was first introduced to the sheep, she wasn’t quite sure what was going on. Then looked at those fuzzy guys huddled in the corner. Very suddenly the instinct kicked in. Let’s just say that I’m just glad she was on a long line at the time. It is always so much fun to see that instinct kick in for the first time. She loves working those sheep but gets a little out of control from time to time.

Just one quick line that no one should disagree with:
Dogs are wonderful.
