Is that supposed to be a mannequin or one of the people who lost his job?

Change costs jobs and creates jobs. There are no street lamp lighter jobs, but lots of bulb manufacturing jobs. Few buggy whip manufacturers, but lot’s of auto workers. More automation means more computer chip manufacturing, more production equipment design and building, more maintenance jobs. With change, the jobs always go somewhere. Without change, the market saturates, product demand drops and the jobs just end.

I learned from watching old movies that what we now call “models” were once called “mannequins”, short for “living mannequins”.

There are still many jobs for people who look good standing around in clothes. That was the “special skill” that enabled Melania to get a work visa in the U.S.
