Funny, many of the genre’s leading lights (Y.Z. Hamilton, Bill Monroe, David “Stringbean” Akeman) had a far more cerebral approach to their art than ol’ Hen House here does.
It is kind of sad to see no appearance by Walt Wallet on Father’s Day. The whole charm, and possibly even the reason for the strip’s longevity, was that the original storyline centered around Bachelor Walt Wallet finding an abandoned baby on his doorstep . And taking care of that baby led to his endearing – and enduring – romance with his neighbor – Phyllis Blossom, whom he married in 1926. And the subsequent story of the ways in which their growing family coped with everyday issues and the world events swirling around them kept readers engrossed. I have an aunt who was named Phyllis – because , during the end of the Depression and beginning of World War II, my aunt’s mother had worked in a Cafe whose owners had been very kind to her. The cafe owners had named their daughter Phyllis, after Phyllis Blossom in Gasoline Alley. So my aunt’s mother named my aunt Phyllis in honor of the kind Cafe owners and their daughter – who had been kind to my aunt’s mother during a hard part of her life.
During the early years of Gasoline Alley, when Walt Wallet became a father and family man, this comic strip had a very real impact on the average lives of many ordinary people all over the country – and possibly in some foreign countries as well. It would be wonderful to see Gasoline Alley recover that original concept and take time, every now and then, to honor the man who was once one of the most popular father figures in the entire world.

I as yet see no Reply from Pipe Tobacco, so I’ll put him down as deathly ashamed and embarrassed at Joel’s uncharacteristic outburst.

Are you ready, Hezzie?
Spike Jones had a song banned in the USA called“Beautiful Eggs”
It came out—"The Farmer’s daughter sold her "beautiful(l)eggs….she sold her beautiful (l)eggs…..
You could only get the song in England, where they appreciated things like that
