Driving through Arizona on our honeymoon in 1969, I saw a lake on the map. Deciding it would be a good place for a rest stop, we turned off route 66. The pavement ended quickly, then the gravel ended, and we were picking our way between the cacti. Just as we were about to turn around, we came upon a group of people playing volleyball. Asking them about the lake, we learned that a dam had been built, so a lake was expected within a few years.
I recall finding some interesting routes with a coworker while testing out our School Bus mapping software during summer break. Had to back out of some cow paths once or twice. Yeah, in a full sized conventional bus too.

This road badly needs a “route” canal.

And that makes all the difference.

Frost’s poem said that the less traveled road made all the difference. But it doesn’t continue to let us know if that difference was a good or bad.
