My local Humane Society will microchip a pet for only $35 (USD), which includes placement of the microchip and enrollment.

For those in the UK – in case you are not aware – if your cat is NOT microchipped (new law started on 10th June), you’ll get fined £500. Apparently it costs £10-30 here
