I stopped going to MLB games when they started timeouts for commercials. I’ll go to minor league games because they play through. I couldn’t afford a ticket anyway. The average price for a Cubs game is now $71.00. I have better ways to spend my money, ie food, rent, transportation.
Between the pitch clock, ghost runner, and the automatic strike when the hitter doesn’t make “eye contact” quickly enough, they’ve invented a whole new game. One of the biggest advantages of baseball was that it was the one team sport NOT governed by a clock.
Growing up, there was a high school league that went to a “three ball/two strike format to get weekday games in before darkness fell. That set up lasted one season…
The ghost runner is something we used as kids when we didn’t have enough players. For children, it’s fine, but in the major leagues it’s ridiculous. And while we’re at it, can we get rid of interleague play in the regular season? The novelty wore off years ago.
The term ghost runner is enough to freak me out. The name Manfred’s runner is no better. They should have left it alone. If someone is bored with multiple extra innings, do something else.
Feh. Yankees and their minor problems. A First Class cricket match might last three days; a Test Match (international play) might last five. There are now One Day Internationals, only one day, but play in them is markedly different from play in First Class or Test matches.
totally agree! HATE the ghost runner! same with the 3-on-3 overtime in hockey! I call that ‘Icecapades with sticks’ – at least with 4-on-4 it resembled hockey, with 3-on-3 it’s 5 minutes of figure skating for the most part! :(

I’m in year 60 of loving baseball. And the recent rule changes have made it even more enjoyable.

I guess Canadian football was designed with Gen-Zs in mind. We only have three downs.
And a Happy Canada Day to all of us!

I’ll take an 18 inning game—-at those prices, that’ll be close to getting my money’s worth.

The Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton is on the DL with a pulled muscle. In other shocking news, there is gambling going on at Rick’s

Lots of slow pitch tournaments use the 3 ball 2 strike.
