It’s said to be possible to ruin the performance of the players of wind instruments in a band by standing within view and sucking a lemon. Supposedly, the sight of that causes a reaction in the players, making their mouths pucker as if THEY were tasting the lemon, and renders them unable to play well.
I can’t vouch for the truth of that, but my step-grandfather once told me that he and some friends, when they were kids, would ruin the performance of marching bands in a parade by doing that.
