I’m guessing he tried to preheat the oven with half a dozen road flares.

My late wife once baked a cake for an adult education class’s teacher. After trying it, the school called the police, thinking she was trying to poison them! (I am not making this up)

I remember my mom told me when they first got married, my dad thought he’d make breakfast for her, and burned the living daylights outta some scrambled eggs. She said get outta my kitchen, and that was the end of any culinary disasters for the remainder of their marriage… lol!

I had a great recipe for oven-fried chicken that required a very hot oven and thin layer of oil in a sheet pan. That, in turn, requires a REALLY clean oven — which I forgot once. We were having people over for dinner and I started the chicken while they were chatting (it cooked quickly due to high heat). Suddenly the smoke alarm went off. My husband went off to turn it off and came back with the oven door in his hand. The oven had a really neat easy-clean feature which I bet you can guess. In his haste to make sure everything was alright he yanked the thing right off its hinges, and proceeded to bring it into the living room to ask me what the heck he was supposed to do with it. It was a memorable evening all round.
