This actually reminds me a lot of the Psammead from a story we read to with our kids last year called âFive Children and Itâ by E. Nesbit. Heâs an ancient âsand-nymphâ who, when woken up, grants the children one wish a day.
The Psammead is described as having âeyes that were on long horns like a snailâs eyes. It could move them in and out like telescopes; it had ears like a batâs ears, and its tubby body was shaped like a spiderâs and covered with thick soft fur; its legs and arms were furry too, and it had hands and feet like a monkeyâsâ and whiskers like a ratâs.
I just noticed the inset picture, the way Wallace is holding the net. It looks like he has it in some kind of salute posture, like a flag, as if heâs making a proclamation.
No group of humans could be more ridiculous or inspirational or important than these kids. Gahhh! As a former teacher, not janitor, i am regularly surprised at how much this comic gives me hope for the future. But this platform editing my âincendiaryâ language does not.

Are you sure you donât mean wombat? âCause if you wake it up that way, it will probably just emit square poops at you..

Oh Wallace, I feel you got some bad intel on this one. If someone woke me like that, good things would NOT be happening.

i wonder if it stuffs spud into the sousaphone
Steverino Premium Member 6 months ago
The only reason it will grant you a wish is to keep you quiet so it can go back to sleep. Be careful with that wish, however.

Looks like somebodyâs imagination has been influenced by a recent viewing of âMy Neighbor Totoro.â

Low notes to me are more calm and relaxing than high pitched shrilly notes. I know those gas powered leaf blowers wake me up pretty good.

HmmmâŠdoes Wallace come up with these things on his own, or does his dad invent them to get him out of the house?

Wonder what you could wake with a euphonium?

The coloring on the âWomperbahtâ reminds me of a Dr. Suess book.

A French Horn ought to be good for waking a âwhomperbahtâ.
