Yeah I don’t get it either

Hmm. Maybe there’s an undiagnosed reason that Kevin doesn’t like to read much?

The good news is, once diagnosed, dyslexia is relatively easy to treat. It does take work, but it can be treated.

This could be a game changer for him.

So this hits super close to home for me.

It’s amazing how something like dyslexia can go undiagnosed in this day and age, but it can. I had a next-door neighbor and friend, years ago when I was in college, who had gone back to school, trying to get a degree through an adult education program after dropping out on his first attempt. He had explained to me that he just wasn’t smart at school stuff. Had never done well in school. He was trying to read more and he had one of the Dragonlance novels and was plowing through it. He was really excited about the plot and characters but reading it was hard work.

So one day I was showing him some RPG video game or other, which was brand new at the time – maybe Daggerfall? And he was reading the intro out loud. It was clear he wasn’t comfortable as a reader. And then he read several words backwards, and then corrected himself. And I said, “Rob! You’re not dumb, you’re dyslexic!” (Yeah, possibly not the most tactful way of putting it, but I was astonished.)

So, long story short, I persuaded him to see a doctor about it, and he was dyslexic, and just knowing that made a huge difference to his life. Not only were there resources available to help but HE WASN’T STUPID and people had called him stupid all his life.

I’ve lost track of him recently, after being friends for two decades. Wonder how he’s doing now. I do know he got the degree in business and ended up becoming a florist of all things.

Or Kev may have a vision problem.

Careful, Kevin! Miles may still be recovering from his zombie episode.

Poor Miles – for once, he’s not the top reader. (No worries – He’ll be okay and the change’ll do him good.) But can Kevin take being a… bookaholic?

Kevin, that doesn’t make any sense. Are you hiding something from Miles?

Believe it’s called Dyslexia…

I hate when that happens and I can’t focus anymore, dyslexia and stress or anxiety can play a part in the ability to focus.

Sounds a lot more like eyestrain than dyslexia. A visit to an optometrist may be called for.

On the other hand, maybe he just got so engrossed in the story that he stayed up all night reading and fell asleep over the book.

One needs glasses and the other a hearing aid.

Yes I absolutely hate that Kev. Totally feel it. And when you read aloud and the words blend together…ugh.

My eyes go wonky if I try to read without my glasses… because my eyes are quite different from each other prescription-wise.

um Kevin that’s not normal.
