Part of the problem is that there is no way to get kids to accept responsibility. They can refuse to do ANYTHING you ask them to …and there is NOTHING you can do about it. No repercussions at all or you are accused and charged with child abuse. I had a guy in my first year Statics and Dynamics class (Engineering) in university, who was a total jerk to the prof. He was asked to leave the room and refused saying “I am not leaving and you can’t make me. You can’t touch me.” The prof just said “If you are so tough, meet me in the gym after class and we will see just how tough you REALLY are.”. The guy showed up thinking he would beat the crap out of the prof, since he was much bigger, but he forgot that the prof was a martial arts expert (black belt, ninth dan). The prof destroyed him, never attacking, just defending. The guy was never a problem after that. His ego took a huge beating. My children were never a problem ( well.. rarely) because I respected their ideas and feelings, but if they disrespected me, all I had to say was “I am disappointed in you. I thought you were better than that”. That comment hurt more than spanking them or taking away privileges. lol
The world has changed so much since I was a boy. We never ate dinner at fast food places. Rarely even had lunch at one.I could count on one hand how often we had pizza and thn it was home made. Now families routinely eat pizza and fast food for dinner.

Oh, dear… I seem to have forgotten the pizza number. Perhaps you doing your chores would help jog my memory!
