Yakamoto shook his head. âIâve seen enough episodes of Perry Mason to realize that you should never ask a question for which you do not know the answer.â
HR sent out an âanonymousâ poll to find out how workers viewed their managers, looking for answers why morale was so low. Our groupâs boss was a total jerk, and his polls reflected it⊠after he was given his results he held a mandatory group meeting where he berated us for criticizing him⊠then he turned around and announced that he was thrilled with those results because âit proved he was the best leaderâ since âthe best leaders have controversyâ. So instead of making things better, HRâs poll made things worse.
Bad decisions and revenge firings eventually caused that boss to get demoted. But the failures reached all of the way up the management chain, and that company was gone a few years later.
