Since they supposedly don’t understand people talk, (a myth in my book), does it matter whether you talk baby talk or some other cat language that seems to get through? I talk to my two everday, and they respond to my voice. Believe me they know when they’re in trouble, or if Mom just wants to talk. They respond to the tone of our voices either way IMHO.
Having lived many years alone with cats, I never talked “baby talk” to them. I talk to them in a normal tone of voice. When I remarried, it caused endless confusion and jealousy. :)

Poor Ric. He feels left out. Well, Ric, now you see how Mandy feels when you cozy up to Dan all the time and leave her hanging.
