Decapitation is fine to show kids, but don’t use a bad word. And no skin. In a number of other countries they are less worried about nudity and more worried about depictions of violence.
Oh, no, there’s a lot more blood, guts, and gore with the higher ratings. I never cared for anything other than the old classics.

Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho was one of the scariest movies ever… and the language is clean.
Per the MPAA, the PG-13 rating generally permits one f-bomb in a movie so the writers tend to make judicious use of its placement for maximum impact.
Then “The Ring” it is!
