Since this strip is still the latest one I will post something of a rejoinder to the punch line. As I heard it, Berke Breathed had a long time correspondence with author Harper Lee, who told him she loved Bloom County (and/or possibly Opus) and wished that he would bring it back. Breathed then did revive the strip, which has some very good arcs, most particularly the ones involving a young cancer patient nick named Sam the Lion who caused Steve Dallas to undergo something of a personal redemption arc as he did some wonderful things to help out the child. As time went on the strip faded away again, possibly because the cartoonist had other artistic interests and possibly also because Harper Lee passed away. In any case the revival of the strip included some of the Breathed’s very best work in Bloom County.

I’ve just discovered 13 Week Theater on YouTube, and wondered why the name Pab Sungenis seemed familiar.
