We had the Christmas PJs tradition when I was young (75 years ago), and the tradition of having breakfast upstairs in our bedroom, then waiting for our grandmother (dad’s mother) to hobble over from next door to watch us kids come down stairs and open our presents. It’s still fresh in my memory.
We had Christmas PJ’s. It was the one gift we were allowed to open on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we could get our stockings but we’re not allowed to open presents til much later in the day.

With six kids Christmas PJs were out of the question. Not a problem, as A. we had never heard of them and B. we would NOT wear matching outfits.
