Hello everyone. Iâve not really new here. as a matter of fact I been nothing but a silent reader. I need to get something of my chest, so everyone please listen. I love this site, but the recent events going on here has caused me to make a profile so that I can do this. This is a comic place where we all come to read and discuss comics. Now recently ladywolf17 made a mistake of posting a problem that happened to her. Some of us were supportive of her and her dad. others my self included doubted her and her father. We trolls as doctortoon calls us then began to post negative comments at them. We called them fake or fraudulent people. Then they did a noble thing and apologized to us all. Even though I hated them I thought that it was over. But it wasnât, we continued to assault them with negative comments and outburst. We here are supposed to be like family. It is our duty, no our responsibility to make this the best comic site around so that new people could come and enjoy the thrill of comics. Instead we all act like a bunch of Moes. I am ashamed of my self as you all should be of your selves. in the end it was us not the wolf family that ended up being fake and fraudulent. We all owe wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17 a very deep and sincere apology. I shall be the first to do so. To wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17: I donât know either of you but it was wrong of me to insult your family name even though I never made post of it. I do not hate either of you anymore, and I humbly offer my self as your friend, if youâll have me. Please ladywolf17 please come back. None of us had any right to judge you, for you had not harmed any one of us. In the end it was us trolls who ruined comic reading for everyone. Iâm sorry.
Remember back to before the day when the networks got the bug up their butts to actually cut the âviolentâ scenes from Bugs Bunny, The Road Runner and other old favorites that had delighted generations. Those were great cartoons.
Right on!!!
Ok, I used to watch and read comics and cartoons with my son when he was little. Then he grew up and started life on his own and I still read comics.
Saturday morning cartoons areât as good as they used to be. Thank you robbiejohn123 I shall take your comment and apology to heart and will get ladywolf17 to read it as I did. Your friendship is accepted greatfully. And I hope others will be our friends as well.
Me, too! I used to watch the old classic cartoons like the Bugs Bunny show, Tom and Jerry and Popeye. These are so classic Now I look at the new cartoons that seem OK especially SpongeBob I hate it That is terrible!
I loved the Flintstones, Jetson, Tom & Jerry & Bugs Bunny. Scooby Doo, too. Anyone remember the Loan Ranger? I couldnât stand Teanage Mutant Ninga Turtles.
Love Dadâs reaction in panel 3 & Calvinâs in panel 4.
not to mention Pepe le Pew! and donât get me started on some of the Hanna Barbera cartoons like Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound. I blame Snagglepuss (in part) for my difficulties in learning directions. Exit, grinning all the way, stage leftâŠ
I liked Spongebob, I just canât handle too much of him. As we age our tastes change. I am a big fan of star trek but my kids donât want to watch the new movie because their Dad likes the new movie. The cartoons today are created by a new generation that values violent action in cartoons coupled with revenge talk from non moving characters. These new cartoons do not give out jokes they set up kids to want to be violent in real life confrontations. Letâs cheer when the other guy gets beaten by a sword or a strike of energy from the other world.. This is your sonâs Bugsbunny
todayâs cartoon programming is why once in a while i will change over to boomerang network [also operated by cartoon network]
they show a lot of older toons
Just my 2 cents worth on cartoons⊠I always envied Mel Blanc and his ability to consistently produce such a wide range of voices. Bugs Bunny developed my affection for classical music. My dad would get irritated when he would listen to some classical piece and I would laugh, associating the music with some cartoon scene. Honestly, can you listen to the Barber of Seville without picturing flowers popping up on Elmer Fuddâs scalp?
I have to agree with yyyguy: it took me a while to sort out left and right after watching Snagglepuss. Also lived a childhood filled with Huckleberry, Yogi, Speedy, Augie Doggie, Deputy Dawg, Quickdraw McGraw⊠It just occured to me⊠I think I may have spent waayyy to much time watching TV as a kid.
As to cartoon violence: growing up with cartoons and slapstick in the 1960âs range, I think no matter how funny it was on TV, we knew better than to poke our friends in the eyes with both fingers.
Then again, this is a comic site. Although Calvin is my daily stop, I check on Tarzan daily as well. I still like reading Blondie and Peanuts when I pass a newspaper, and miss the likes of Nancy, Alley Oop, and Liâl Abner.
for Harvey Smith â In my view, the function of cartoons /humor is to showcase the little insanities that exist in everyday life. Thatâs very hard to do unless one takes some little artistic license. In days of yore, the licennse was having horrible stuff befall the agressorâ exploding firecrackers, falling off cliffs, etc. Everyone knew or was supposed to know that that stuff was unreal. Then a small group decided that children (who really were probably much smarter and sopisticated than they realized) couldnât tell the difference. The result is some of the blandness one now sees on TV. Lessons are now not taught by humor, but by earnestness. I think a little something has been lost.
Face it, weâve all had times when we figuratively want to wring the road runnerâs neck.
all the cartoons that yyyguy and jon mentioned have been one of my favorites.my all time favorites are bugs bunny and tom & jerry.i still watch them when nothing seems to be coming on tv and iâm 18!!!!anyone remember penelope pitstop..i hated that cartoon.i use to watch top cat (i think that was the name) a lot too
back to the comic, doesnât dadâs attitude remind you of calvin giving his opinion on everything.iâm sure dadâs talking about teletubbies and the like=)
In the 1950âs, there were a few television cartoons that actually allowed us kids to think. For example, Rocky and Bullwinkle used history and current topical themes to make us laugh.
Down here in Oz, back in the 50âs, in the papers, we had Raddish, The Potts, Ginger Meggs, Lil Sport, Garth, Bluey and Curly and Mandrake the magician. Then we got Dennis the Menace, Flash Gordon and The Phantom. I even remember James Bond (Dr No) as a comic strip in the 60âs.
Yes, but that means someone is confused. Foghorn Leghorn was one of Warner Bros.â toons. If Hanna Barbara ever featured a rooster, I donât remember him.
ladywolf17, if you read this, I changed my mind about my favorite character on this site. Itâs B.C., all the way. I admire Peter, but B.C. and I think and emote in much the same screwball way.
But Calvin and Hobbes tie in second place. And Calvin, of course, is my evil twin.
Youâre all bringing back memories of when I was a kid watching cartoons Saturday mornings with my brother. Maybe Dad can find some dvdâs of his favourite cartoons and watch them with Calvin to show what real cartoons were like.
I remember when Aleta was kidnapped and taken to Niagara Falls and Val came and rescued her. If comics today are not bland, they are too violent. No happy medium.

All three of those are available on another website comics.com. hereâs a link to Liâl Abner http://comics.com/lilabnerclassics/ Unfortunately since they changed the format of that website theyâve repeated the same 5-6 storylines at least 6 or 8 times, where it used to be updated with a classic every day. Kinda annoying really, Iâve read these I wan to move on.
Some of the other classics are appearing on Newsok.com, but in modern versions which I personally donât like. You can find the Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Flash Gordon and many others there. Hope it helps.
Hey, letâs not forget all of the Superhero Cartoons: Superman, Batman(my favorite!), Aquaman, Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Moby DickâŠ..Need I go on?
When I was little I used to buy Little Lulu and Superman comic books* - an interesting combination, yes? My mother thought comic books were trash, until she discovered that they had long words and were quite literate.
*I donât mean they were both in the same comic book. I had one set of Little Lulus, and another set of Supermans. Clear?
We recently added boomerang to our DTV account and I love that my sons favorite cartoons are the oldies but goodiesâŠTom and Jerry, Johnny Quest, Justice League, Huckleberry Hound etc etc :)
Ahhh those were the days- circa 1982, a household quiet with sleeping parents & siblings, a heaping bowl of Cocoa Pebbles, and the mesmerizing magic of those wonderful cartoons.
Another advantage of Rocky and Bullwinkle: all the other cartoons that got mixed in: Fractured Fairy Tales, Peabody, Dudley Do-Right, the one with the intrepid adventurer, and prob. others Iâve forgotten.
Iâve always been a huge fan of looney toons and also Snaglepuss, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear and some others. So what happenend to those great shows. They were replaced by Japanese anime and other not so desent cartoons.
Speaking of old cartoons. I loved the Rocky and Buwinkle show. I have a little shih tzu named Dusty Miller and his nick name is Mister Peabody. Any one remember him?
Foghorn J. Leghorn was one of the Looney Tunes characters, along with, of course, Bugs, Elmer, Porky, The Roadrunner, etc. Luckily for an old kid like me, Netflix has a number of DVDs of Looney Tunes cartoons, as well as Woody Woodpecker and his pals from Walter Lantz. Still great to watch - oh, for those so long ago Saturday kids matinees at your local theaterâŠ..You know, the theater with one screen only? Double feature, news, cartoon, an installment of some silly serial, previews, and NO ads.
Ok, now you guys did it. You got me to thinking about old kiddy shows and I got stuck on something and need helpâŠ.
This wasnât a cartoon, but it was a very popular kids show (B&W in the 60s?) hosted by a rather crazy fella whoâs program always had surprise visitors knocking on doors. He was quite funny actuallyââspecially the time he answered the door and totally cracked up laughing because, unbeknownst to us viewers, there was a bare naked gal standing on the other side.
The crazy guy/show is on the tip of my tongue butâŠ..anybody??
Some great old cartoons and comics have been mentioned. My favourite as a kid back in the 40âs before television, was the Walt Disney comic books with the monthly Donald Duck story, and handful of comic strips. I could never understand Donald in the cartoon versions at the movies, but those comic books were real classics and the humour was quite sophisticated. I still have them, and used to read them to my kids as bedtime stories.
Honestly, Iâm defiitely far too young to know even a handful of those cartoons..=D Well, I wasnât very interested in cartoons and comics though. I only read âAstrixâ comics at least twiceâŠgreat humor!!
Then..about four years ago..C&H showed up in a newspaper. And since then Iâve been a very loyal C&H reader. To me itâs been the best comic strip ever!!!!!
Is there still some out there who could explain me what a âgene siskelâ is? English isnât my mother tongue and I donât find any translations⊠=(
That was âold timeâ animation folks, PEOPLE drew animation sequences, each cell was photographed. No computer graphics or digital animation. That is why I still love the comics, for the most part , they are still drawn by a cartoonist (a person). One of my favorite animated cartoons was Popeye the Sailor, before Brutus, check out the background illustrations in those âoldiesâ if you ever get the opportunity. If you like animated cartoons those are real gems.
Honestly, I donât have any financial ties to Netflix (except for the $18 I pay them every month), but they have Mighty Mouse also, on a disc with Nancy, Little Lulu, Baby Huey, etc. No Heckle and Jeckle, though, but there is actually quite a bit of H&J on YouTube, for some reason. Not too much of the old Terrytoons out there.
MADRUGA - Gene Siskel was a famous movie critic, with his partner Roger Ebert. Gene died sometime back.
âThese characters donât even move! They just stand around blinking!â Must be watching âClutch Cargoâ!
<:-) Remember that? Only the lips and eyes would move!
I think all posts should solely rely on the Strip Itself and not on personal problems or Ideals. Period. Well anyway the best Saturday Cartoon is Yosemite Sam & TAZ !
* Redskins fan, OMG, yes I used to watch Clutch Cargo when I got home from school!! Loved it! Are we old or what? Our youth today are missing so much!!*
carpetinwater9, Yea right I hear yaâ! Yosemite Sam & TAZ! Personal problems, ideals. You are as big a kid as the rest of us and you LOVE IT!
I was THRILLED the other day to turn on my tv and find that CartoonNetwork branched out and has a new channel thats exclusively for the âoldâ cartoons that I used to watch as a kidâŠ.Yogi, Flintstones, SMURFS (my fav!) just to name a few. Had a BLAST watching them the other morning. Smurfs with a bowl of crappy kids cereal with a cup of coffee. the high was great the crash was MUCH worse than i ever remember it being⊠:)
Here is one site that shows a listing of some of the old cartoons - but I notice a lot are left out too!
http://www.nonstick.com/wdocs/charac.html
Does anyone remember a cartoon about a shark and his little sidekick - the shark was notorious for mixing up his cliches. One of my favorite lines he said was (when asked why he did something) âOhâŠfor the halibut!â
@Grazer, my pleasure good sir, You have provided me with many heartfelt laughs and some very7 fond reminiscences on these pages.
@Redskin Fan, yes it is King Crimson, as I said before they were an integral part of my post military uhm recentering. and Brother do you make me cringe mentioning Clutch Cargo. I think he was the beginning of the end.
more post thoughts; they werenât exactly a cartoon, but does anyone care to admit to watching the Saturday morning show âBanana Splitsâ/ they were hilarious!
I learned to like classical music from the cartoons when I was a little girl. The characters used to build large buildings to the music.
Also, we read TinTin (and his dog Snowy) with his side kick Captain Haddock to our children growing up abroad. They were British, I believe. Really wonderful.
i remember âZero Zero Islandâ as being an island off the coast of Africa at 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude, but i donât remember the cartoon.
and I would be remiss if i didnât mention my all-time favourite animated show, Jonny Quest. (The original, not the updated version that was bought out about 15 to 20 years ago.)
Being born in the 1990s, I was unable to tell that a lot of my cartoons were ads. Examples:
Transformers
GI Joe
Batman: The Animated Series
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic SatAM
Pokemon
Still, some Looney Tunes, Flintstones, and Tom and Jerry did make it into my itinerary.

Grazer, I think that would be Soupy Sales.

I think my favorite cartoon character, tho I too enjoyed most all of the ones mentioned and others, would be The Master himself, Sir Donald Duck.

Well one thing is for sure, you guys must be a bunch of old farts!! Did anybody mention Mighty Mouse?? or Heckel and Jeckel? LOL
Madruga over 15 years ago

Does anyone remember a cartoon about a shark and his little sidekick - the shark was notorious for mixing up his cliches. One of my favorite lines he said was (when asked why he did something) âOhâŠfor the halibut!â
JonD17 over 15 years ago

Maybe heâs watching âRocket Robin Hoodâ An action hero who never moves.
Anybody remember a cartoon with a spaceman and a robot who lived on an asteroid called â Zero Zero Islandâ?

No one has mentioned Pink Panther! We watch those all the time with our kids on Netflix. Love their âwatch instantlyâ feature.

Just figured it out - the shark was called âMisterjawâ with his sidekick, Catfish.

@ Ushindi and grazer: Thanks a lot for your help!!! Didnât think of a personâŠnot very smart ;-)..

i remember âZero Zero Islandâ as being an island off the coast of Africa at 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude, but i donât remember the cartoon. and I would be remiss if i didnât mention my all-time favourite animated show, Jonny Quest. (The original, not the updated version that was bought out about 15 to 20 years ago.)

Being born in the 1990s, I was unable to tell that a lot of my cartoons were ads. Examples: Transformers GI Joe Batman: The Animated Series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic SatAM Pokemon Still, some Looney Tunes, Flintstones, and Tom and Jerry did make it into my itinerary.
