Hello everyone. I’ve not really new here. as a matter of fact I been nothing but a silent reader. I need to get something of my chest, so everyone please listen. I love this site, but the recent events going on here has caused me to make a profile so that I can do this. This is a comic place where we all come to read and discuss comics. Now recently ladywolf17 made a mistake of posting a problem that happened to her. Some of us were supportive of her and her dad. others my self included doubted her and her father. We trolls as doctortoon calls us then began to post negative comments at them. We called them fake or fraudulent people. Then they did a noble thing and apologized to us all. Even though I hated them I thought that it was over. But it wasn’t, we continued to assault them with negative comments and outburst. We here are supposed to be like family. It is our duty, no our responsibility to make this the best comic site around so that new people could come and enjoy the thrill of comics. Instead we all act like a bunch of Moes. I am ashamed of my self as you all should be of your selves. in the end it was us not the wolf family that ended up being fake and fraudulent. We all owe wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17 a very deep and sincere apology. I shall be the first to do so. To wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17: I don’t know either of you but it was wrong of me to insult your family name even though I never made post of it. I do not hate either of you anymore, and I humbly offer my self as your friend, if you’ll have me. Please ladywolf17 please come back. None of us had any right to judge you, for you had not harmed any one of us. In the end it was us trolls who ruined comic reading for everyone. I’m sorry.

    Your friend robbiejohn123.

I liked Spongebob, I just can’t handle too much of him. As we age our tastes change. I am a big fan of star trek but my kids don’t want to watch the new movie because their Dad likes the new movie. The cartoons today are created by a new generation that values violent action in cartoons coupled with revenge talk from non moving characters. These new cartoons do not give out jokes they set up kids to want to be violent in real life confrontations. Let’s cheer when the other guy gets beaten by a sword or a strike of energy from the other world.. This is your son’s Bugsbunny

Just my 2 cents worth on cartoons… I always envied Mel Blanc and his ability to consistently produce such a wide range of voices. Bugs Bunny developed my affection for classical music. My dad would get irritated when he would listen to some classical piece and I would laugh, associating the music with some cartoon scene. Honestly, can you listen to the Barber of Seville without picturing flowers popping up on Elmer Fudd’s scalp?

I have to agree with yyyguy: it took me a while to sort out left and right after watching Snagglepuss. Also lived a childhood filled with Huckleberry, Yogi, Speedy, Augie Doggie, Deputy Dawg, Quickdraw McGraw… It just occured to me… I think I may have spent waayyy to much time watching TV as a kid.

As to cartoon violence: growing up with cartoons and slapstick in the 1960’s range, I think no matter how funny it was on TV, we knew better than to poke our friends in the eyes with both fingers.

Then again, this is a comic site. Although Calvin is my daily stop, I check on Tarzan daily as well. I still like reading Blondie and Peanuts when I pass a newspaper, and miss the likes of Nancy, Alley Oop, and Li’l Abner.

for Harvey Smith – In my view, the function of cartoons /humor is to showcase the little insanities that exist in everyday life. That’s very hard to do unless one takes some little artistic license. In days of yore, the licennse was having horrible stuff befall the agressor– exploding firecrackers, falling off cliffs, etc. Everyone knew or was supposed to know that that stuff was unreal. Then a small group decided that children (who really were probably much smarter and sopisticated than they realized) couldn’t tell the difference. The result is some of the blandness one now sees on TV. Lessons are now not taught by humor, but by earnestness. I think a little something has been lost.

Face it, we’ve all had times when we figuratively want to wring the road runner’s neck.

In the 1950’s, there were a few television cartoons that actually allowed us kids to think. For example, Rocky and Bullwinkle used history and current topical themes to make us laugh.

Down here in Oz, back in the 50’s, in the papers, we had Raddish, The Potts, Ginger Meggs, Lil Sport, Garth, Bluey and Curly and Mandrake the magician. Then we got Dennis the Menace, Flash Gordon and The Phantom. I even remember James Bond (Dr No) as a comic strip in the 60’s.

Yes, but that means someone is confused. Foghorn Leghorn was one of Warner Bros.’ toons. If Hanna Barbara ever featured a rooster, I don’t remember him.

ladywolf17, if you read this, I changed my mind about my favorite character on this site. It’s B.C., all the way. I admire Peter, but B.C. and I think and emote in much the same screwball way.

But Calvin and Hobbes tie in second place. And Calvin, of course, is my evil twin.

All three of those are available on another website comics.com. here’s a link to Li’l Abner http://comics.com/lilabnerclassics/ Unfortunately since they changed the format of that website they’ve repeated the same 5-6 storylines at least 6 or 8 times, where it used to be updated with a classic every day. Kinda annoying really, I’ve read these I wan to move on.

Some of the other classics are appearing on Newsok.com, but in modern versions which I personally don’t like. You can find the Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Flash Gordon and many others there. Hope it helps.

This wasn’t a cartoon, but it was a very popular kids show (B&W in the 60s?) hosted by a rather crazy fella who’s program always had surprise visitors knocking on doors. He was quite funny actually—‘specially the time he answered the door and totally cracked up laughing because, unbeknownst to us viewers, there was a bare naked gal standing on the other side.

The crazy guy/show is on the tip of my tongue but…..anybody??

Some great old cartoons and comics have been mentioned. My favourite as a kid back in the 40’s before television, was the Walt Disney comic books with the monthly Donald Duck story, and handful of comic strips. I could never understand Donald in the cartoon versions at the movies, but those comic books were real classics and the humour was quite sophisticated. I still have them, and used to read them to my kids as bedtime stories.

That was “old time” animation folks, PEOPLE drew animation sequences, each cell was photographed. No computer graphics or digital animation. That is why I still love the comics, for the most part , they are still drawn by a cartoonist (a person). One of my favorite animated cartoons was Popeye the Sailor, before Brutus, check out the background illustrations in those “oldies” if you ever get the opportunity. If you like animated cartoons those are real gems.

Not too much of the old Terrytoons out there. MADRUGA - Gene Siskel was a famous movie critic, with his partner Roger Ebert. Gene died sometime back.

i remember “Zero Zero Island” as being an island off the coast of Africa at 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude, but i don’t remember the cartoon. and I would be remiss if i didn’t mention my all-time favourite animated show, Jonny Quest. (The original, not the updated version that was bought out about 15 to 20 years ago.)

Being born in the 1990s, I was unable to tell that a lot of my cartoons were ads. Examples: Transformers GI Joe Batman: The Animated Series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic SatAM Pokemon Still, some Looney Tunes, Flintstones, and Tom and Jerry did make it into my itinerary.
