I still remember when Mom came up from the basement / sewing room, and told me I had to drive her to the ER. She had the sewing machine needle run through her finger,nail and all.She had been able to release the needle from the machine.
Nothing dangerous happens in choir either (unless you fall off a riser), but we still require waivers for it. If someone has a health issue, we don’t want to be sued because of whether or not we notice in a timely fashion and seek medical care.
